Sense the Wind Film Screening – August Joint Meeting

6:30 – 9:00pm Movie Screening Special Joint Meeting with ALYC and Dinner*
A very special, not-to-be-missed general meeting is planned featuring a filmmaker screening at the Great Hall at the American Legion Post, Newport Beach, CA of Sense the Wind: Blind sailors race across open water. The hour-long documentary will be followed by a Q&A with NY based Producer/Director Christine Knowlton.
Six years in the making, Sense the Wind, which follows the journey of four blind sailors as they train and compete in national and international regattas, is making its way around the globe in outreach and beginning distribution. The film was given a Humanitarian Award at the Socially Relevant Film Festival NY and has shown has shown in Tokyo, Poland, Moscow, Canada and continues across the US.
Viewing Sense the Wind is a perfect lead-up to the joint WSA-OC/ALYC event that is held every October; the Sail for the Blind and Visually Impaired. There will be a 50/50 raffle benefiting the 2017 SVI and an opportunity to sign-up to be a volunteer.
***Please note special day and location: this will be a joint August meeting with ALYC (American Legion Yacht Club) and will be on Thursday, August 10th at the American Legion Post, see below for address and map. Parking is available on the street or at the nearby Marina Park lot. ALYC requests that we please enter the building by the front entrance only.
ALYC Bar will be open for cash purchase for WSA-OC attendees during this joint event.* A delicious buffet dinner will be available for purchase, only $9 (cash only)!
Meetings are open to all members, their guests and any member of the public interested in learning more about the WSA-OC. Guests may attend up to two meetings as non-members to learn about our group.
